That Antony Cotton Show to fill ITV1’s tea time slot

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

ITV1’s new weekday tea time slot will be filled by yet another comedy chat programme this time with Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton. That Antony Cotton Show is yet another show that will have to go up against the ever popular Paul O’Grady Show or Richard and Judy on Channel 4.

The show will be aired over a over a five week period during the summer in ITV1’s weekday 5-6pm tea-time slot.

Talks surrounding a possible chat show for Cotton came about in January after he won ITV’s Soapstar Superstar. He also walked away from this year’s British Soap Awards ceremony with the gong for ‘Best Actor’.

The 31-year-old actor will film the show in front of a live audience at Mancherster’s Granada Studios while, at the same time, maintaining his appearances in Coronation Street.

Father endangers daughter on new talent show

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

So Simon Cowell is back tonight as a judge on the new talent show, Britain’s Got Talent and it seems that the show could be even more interesting than The X Factor. Contestants show off their talents in the hope of winning a spot on the Royal Variety Show.

One act, however, alarmed almost everyone who watched including the judges. Father and daughter Brian and Melanie Webber auditioned for the ITV1 reality series as a knife-throwing act but the audience, presenters Ant and Dec and the judges were alarmed by the fathers shaky hands and his inability to hit the target.

“Is this legal?” Ant asked. “You are about to throw knives at your daughter in front of 2,000 people, will you be able to hold it together?” Brian Webber could hardly hold onto a bottle of water due to nerves.

“I hope so,” Melanie replied. “I might as well start shaking because I could be dead by the sound of things!”

The judges were forced to tell Brian and Melanie to stop the act almost immediately when Brian’s knives consistently missed their targets and flew off around the stage.

“I had to stop you before you had an ex-daughter,” judge Piers Morgan said.

Cowell added: “I just saved your life Melanie.”

ITV eyes House

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

In my opinion ITV has gone down hill in recent years. Myself and countless other viewers have been switching over to its competitors in the hopes of finding something half decent to watch. The “half decent thing” to watch is House on Five and according to a report in the Media Guardian ITV is out to win the rights to one of Five’s most successful US imports.

ITV are said to be “upbeat and confident” that it will secure the rights to House, which stars Hugh Laurie in the title role. The medical drama has been very successful for Five and regularly pulls in audiences of over 2.5 million on Five.

Until ITV secure the rights you can catch House on Five on Thursday nights at 9. Watch it, it’s the best thing on Five.

Ofcom to investigate BSkyB’s stake in ITV

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

BSkyB’s stake in ITV is to be investigated by Ofcom after being asked by the Trade and industry secretary Alistair Darling. Sky acquired a 17.9% stake in ITV in November which ultimately stopped any plans for their main competitor, Virgin Media from taking over ITV.

Ofcom must provide advice to Alistair Darling minister by April 27 on whether the case raises public interest concerns about the number of different owners of media enterprises.

Some have complained that BSkyB’s stake stifles competition and could prove a conflict of interest.

Under “cross-ownership rules”, Sky is not allowed to own more than 20% of ITV.
